Is a Charlotte area club formed in the 70's by people wanting to make friends with others who enjoy outdoor activities. 'Berg Wanderer' means mountain wanderer in German, which is how the club was named by its founders. With some original members still active, and many new members, the Bergs are very active in many outdoor activities throughout the year. The Bergs invite and encourage anyone with an interest in great outdoors to join the club. We are a very informal, friendly group of outdoors enthusiasts who meet monthly to plan outdoor trips to a variety places. Our membership is varied as our choice outings which includes families, married couples and singles of all ages.
The types of outings that are regularly led are hiking, backpacking, canoe/kayak paddling (flat & whitewater), biking (street & mountain), skiing (cross-country & downhill), camping, and whitewater rafting. Some of the unique trips that are led are skydiving, rock hopping, orienteering, and moonlit trips. Any and all types of trips are encouraged and can be led. Sometimes even indoor activities are led such as going to a movie, or touring a local brewery.
Most day trips are within hours of Charlotte to the mountains of North Carolina, South Carolina, or Virginia. Weekend trips can venture to as far away as Georgia for a black water swamp experience or to West Virginia for a ski trip. Some are fortunate enough to take one to two weeks for a ski trip to Colorado or a backpack trip to the desert area of Arizona. There are no limits to what this club will do.
And we might mention, that we are pretty good eaters. Some have said we do all these outdoor activities to keep off all the pounds we eat! Who could have started this rumor? |
